What is OMAD?
OMAD stands for One Meal a Day. Ideally a water faster will strive to eat one meal per day. It is not difficult once a person is adapted to water fasting for periods of 18-24 hours or more.
Depending on how much fat you need to lose this can be extremely helpful. If a OMAD faster eats a balanced healthy meal during the one hour or so feeding window, it can really prove great results.
It boils down to self discipline. Once adapted to intermittent fasting and delaying meals for several hours it gets easier. The body craves sugar and carbs after consuming them. With discipline during the first part of this journey a water faster can overcome the desire to consume junk food.
With each day the hunger for junk food gets less and less and fasting gets easier and easier. With the craving for the bad diet decreasing it becomes easy to eat healthy foods in reasonable quantities. While doing this the weight drops off. It is important to eat quality foods for the one meal. If the dieter is not sure what to eat it is important to seek advice from a dietician or doctor. Dr. Boz is trained internal medicine and has good dietary advice.
Eating one meal a day can save up to $600 per month. The one meal might seem larger but not much. The stomach adapts to less consumption and limits the quantity of food consumption in the meal.
I have to mention one meal every 24 hours saves time. If a person was eating healthy there would be the inevitable time it takes to prepare the food. Time is a non-renewable resource.
One meal a day benefits the digestive tract. It gives the stomach, pancreas, large bowel, and gall bladder. If you have irritable bowel syndrome the OMAD helps with that. Of course seek medical advice before treating with IBD with OMAD.
It improves the immune system. Fasting promotes Autophagy.
OMAD does promote autophagy. This is the recycling of damaged protein cells. It also recycles viruses, fungus, mold, and candida. This also helps the immune system stated above.
Aside from bolstering the immune system autophagy helps with inflammation and improves depression. It is believed that autophagy helps fight early cancer cells and tumors. See this 2015 article from NCBI on autphagy.
Who would not want to live longer? Who wouldn’t want better skin? Want to decrease depression? Fasting improves all of these. Depression anxiety are blood sugar issues.
I will have to say it definitely energized me. Once I was adjusted to fat burning from sugar burning I really felt more energy. I was going beyond OMAD and doing regular 36 and 48 hour water fasts. I was doing intense cardio workouts and sometimes did them twice a day. I felt great after the workouts.
One meal a day helps with cognitive functioning. I have personal experience with improved mental clarity during my fasting. The mental clarity comes with a feeling of euphoria. Then eating makes me feel worse. My digestive system kicks back into action after resting during a fast.
