A very helpful tip is to start a fast after dinner a few hours before bed time.
WHY?
It is already a healthy choice to not eat too close to bedtime. Starting a fast after dinner (especially that is eaten at a reasonable time) is a great time to begin a fast. The fast will have 2 or 3 hours done already before sleeping.
If a fasting person follows this schedule and then sleeps 8 hours they would have about 11 hours of fasting under their belt in the morning. This is a great head start for a fast.
Beginner fasting gets easier with each successful fast. For someone starting out it can be encouraging to wake up with about 12 hours already done on a fast. Starting a fast at lunch midday can be done but may be more difficult mentally as the person may want to eat before heading to sleep.
Fasting while sleeping is easier than fasting while awake. For obvious reasons a person is not sitting around thinking about food. And unless someone is sleep walking everyone is technically fasting while they sleep. So starting after an early dinner is a great time to begin a fast.
I wake up and exercise for my first activity. I do not usually eat breakfast either way. Exercise will dull any hunger I may have. Besides if you are not hungry you should not eat breakfast anyway.
By skipping breakfast and eating lunch later around noon a person can easily do an 18 hour fast. That is if they finished dinner around 6 pm and did not eat until the following day at 12 noon.
